ATL Symphony Musicians Foundation is pleased to join with Anacrusis Productions to bring this project to fruition.  Read more about the joint project and Anacrusis' mission to preserve classical music as a quality experience, bringing artists and audiences together.

Project Overview:
  • A concert featuring all 6 Bach Brandenburg Concertos in one (1) concert
  • This concert will be a co-production by Atlanta-based Anacrusis Productions Ltd. and the ATL Symphony Musicians Foundation, featuring major professional players from around the Atlanta area including soloists from the ATL Symphony Musicians

Artistic Vision:

The performance of J.S. Bach’s complete Brandenburg Concertos in one concert event is a rare artistic achievement and not often done. These masterpieces were written to display the sheer virtuosity of one of the great court orchestras of Europe, where Bach was Kapellmeister.  Prince Leopold, a great lover of music, gave Bach free rein to spare no expense in assembling the greatest court orchestra of the time. Each of the six concerti displays the artistry of the different major stars of the orchestra and the opportunity to hear them all in one sitting provides a unique and complete experience of these great masterworks juxtaposed one to the other. This is a rare opportunity to experience a concert event in which the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts.  As in Bach’s day, the venue for this performance will place the audience in intimate proximity to the performers, and to one of the great masterworks of Western Civilization, for a truly unique concert experience.

  • The program will feature the 6 Brandenburg Concertos by J.S. Bach in one complete concert.

About Anacrusis Productions Ltd.
“Building, sustaining & passing on legacies in the arts from generation to generation…”

Mission.  The mission of Anacrusis is to preserve and advance the tradition and legacy of classical music and related arts for future generations.

Through intimate, classical music performances, strategic artist management services and focused educational outreach, Anacrusis Productions strives to capture the essence of the classical music art form.

History.  Anacrusis was founded in 2009 when conductor, Michael Palmer, strategist Michael Yip, and pianist David Palmer identified a need to capture and share the important legacies of those in the music world, before that history and knowledge was lost.  Through several means and opportunities, such as performance, education and professional assistance, Anacrusis will seek to assist in building, propelling forward and gathering these legacies to share with future generations.

What is a Legacy? Though a legacy is most commonly defined as money or property bequeathed to another by a will, or is something handed down from an ancestor or someone from the past, it is the latter part of this definition that Anacrusis is focused on.  A 'legacy' in terms of classical music is defined as a musical experience shared by the composer through today’s artists.

Why a Legacy? Why is a legacy so important?  Study and performance of great music is passed from generation to generation, and it is the continuity of music's preservation which enables today’s performer to explore, learn and play music of the past with a sense of truth. This in turn provides a musical framework for today’s audiences, which excites interest and exalts the human spirit.

Goals and Objectives.  Anacrusis has four overarching goals:
  1. Help qualified artists define, build and pass on their legacies;
  2. Support such artists in this goal through strategic guidance and fiscal management and support;
  3. Provide opportunities for professional musicians and student musicians to work together in an effort to share legacies and showcase their product to the world audiences;
  4. Offer educational workshops and lectures to artists of all ages throughout the world

The tactical goals and objectives of Anacrusis will include:
  • Promoting the development of emerging artists through marketing, management services and performances
  • Establishing a framework from which musicians have a role to play in the creation, production and success of Anacrusis initiatives
  • Developing an international network of artists who will participate in Anacrusis events
  • Creating a revolutionary collaboration between the for-profit business model and the not-for-profit artistic model by integrating business strategy with artistic development
  • Establishing symposiums where the Anacrusis product can be shared and discussed with experts and novices alike
  • Developing meaningful experiences for audiences based on several considerations, including location, size of performing ensemble, kind of music performed, history of the music and comparisons of the composer and artist’s lives to the lives of the audience members.

Facilities and Service Delivery.
Utilizing facilities and locations throughout the world, Anacrusis will support its goals and initiatives by using the concept of the mission statement in any location deemed appropriate.  Anacrusis will also use advanced multimedia technology and social media to deliver its product.

Gifts and Benefits.  Anacrusis receives support from individual contributions, corporate donations, sponsorships, grants, memberships, and in-kind gifts.  For performances, concert sponsorships cover about eighty percent of the expenses, while ticket sales cover approximately twenty percent.  Anacrusis tries diligently to keep ticket prices affordable to assure that all those interested in attending a concert, can do so.  For educational opportunities, all sources of income provide 100% support for those artists receiving the education from Anacrusis.  Charitable donations are also used for general operating expenses in order to achieve the following:

  • Develop and share the many legacies of those artists who participate in the Anacrusis goals and initiatives;
  • Enhance the quality of community cultural life by supporting the experience of live performances of the world’s greatest music played by regional, national and international artists;
  • Contribute to the visibility and availability of quality classical music art in the world

Planning and Evaluation. Anacrusis’ Board of Directors meets quarterly to monitor the programs and service effectiveness for its target market and audience and to ensure the organization is fulfilling its overall mission.  A strategic plan has been created and is utilized by the board to assist them in meeting the needs of the organization through four focus areas:  governance, programs and services, human resources, and finance and fundraising.

Governance.  A volunteer board provides on-going leadership, experience and guidance, demonstrating their commitment to the fulfillment of Anacrusis’ Mission.  Members are expected to have a love of music and a passion for sharing great music which is accessible to all.  The entire board demonstrates their individual support and commitment to the organization by sharing their “treasures, time and talents.”

Staffing.  Initially, staffing will be handled by the Board of Directors, volunteers and hired experts for specific projects.  Eventually, staffing positions will be comprised of professionals who will support the long term goals of the organization.

Conclusion Anacrusis believes that art legacies are and must remain a vital part of the human condition as experienced throughout the world. As the arts and the legacies that define the arts provide a vital expression of who we are as a people, Anacrusis plays an important role in the preservation of our culture.
